When Jordan scored 49 against the Detroit Pistons, it was another example of his ability to
elevate beyond what anyone thought was possible. The 45% shooting efficiency on that
volume of attempts is what separated him from every other scorer in history.

Big Game James — The Player Jordan Said Was The Toughest Matchup Of His
Career
James Worthy won three championships with the Lakers, earned the 1988 Finals MVP, and averaged 17.6
points per game across 12 seasons. He was the second-best player on three championship teams — a role
he executed with quiet excellence. Jordan has said that guarding Worthy was the most physically exhausting
defensive assignment of his career — the combination of size, speed, and skill was unlike anything else he
faced at small forward. Worthy retired in 1994 just as the Bulls dynasty was hitting its peak.
The Jordan Connection: Worthy and Jordan overlapped for Jordan's first 8 seasons. The Lakers-Bulls
championship collision never happened in the Finals — the teams competed in different conferences and
different peak windows. But Jordan's respect for Worthy's game is well documented. 'Big Game James was
the toughest I ever guarded. Period.'
