'THE PLASTIC MAN' — 6'7" WINGSPAN, ELITE PERIMETER DEFENDER
The Best Defensive Player Jordan Said He Had To Work Against
Stacey Augmon was drafted 9th overall in 1991 and was widely considered the most gifted perimeter
defender of his draft class. His wingspan and quickness made him a nightmare assignment for any guard or
small forward. He averaged 10+ points for multiple seasons while focusing primarily on defense. He made
the All-Defensive Second Team in 1994. Jordan said guarding against Augmon's length required specific
game planning. He spent most of his career on teams that didn't compete for championships.
The Jordan Connection: Augmon's Atlanta Hawks teams were competitive in the early-to-mid 1990s, with
Dominique Wilkins and later Steve Smith. They competed with Jordan's Bulls in the regular season and were
eliminated from playoff contention by Chicago's dominance of the Eastern Conference.
