Most Efficient 50-Point Game In NBA History
MICHAEL JORDAN KOBE BRYANT WILT CHAMBERLAIN
April 3, 1988. Jordan went to Detroit — the same Detroit Pistons who would spend the next three years
trying to physically end his career — and shot 21-of-27 from the field. That's 78%. He scored 59 points. In
Detroit. Where Laimbeer, Mahorn, and the rest of the Bad Boys were playing thuggery as a defensive
strategy. Jordan shot 78% against the most physically abusive defense in the league. He was 24 years
old.

THE MOST EFFICIENT 50-POINT GAME IN HISTORY
The Detroit Pistons had a defensive rulebook specifically written for Michael Jordan called 'The Jordan
Rules.' The plan: foul him hard every time he drove, send two defenders at him early, make him earn every
basket at the price of physical pain. On April 3, 1988, Jordan went to Detroit and shot 21-of-27 from the field.
78% field goal percentage. 59 points. The Pistons fouled him 22 times — he made 17 free throws. Every time
they hit him, he made the free throw and came back. The Bulls won. Detroit's rulebook didn't work that night.

The Jordan Rules were a real documented strategy — physically foul Jordan on every drive, make him beat
you from the free throw line and mid-range, don't let him get easy looks near the basket. The problem: Jordan
shot 84% from the free throw line and 50%+ on midrange. The strategy annoyed him. It never stopped him.

The Game Tip.
Jordan studied the Pistons before every game. He knew exactly which foul Laimbeer
would throw, when Mahorn would step up, what angle they'd use. He wasn't just more
talented — he was more prepared. The 78% shooting night in Detroit wasn't random. It
was the result of studying exactly what they were going to do and deciding how to beat it
before the ball was ever tipped.

The Man Who Made The Shot Jordan Passed Up
In Game 6 of the 1997 Finals, Jordan drove baseline with Utah collapsed on him. He kicked to Steve Kerr.
Kerr hit the championship winner. The moment is remembered as Jordan's — but it was Kerr's shot, Kerr's
clutch. He shot 45.4% from three for his career — one of the highest marks in NBA history. He won 5
championships as a player (3 with Bulls, 2 with Spurs) and another 4 as a coach with Golden State. The
most decorated man in NBA history nobody calls a great player.
The Jordan Connection: Jordan told Kerr before that Game 6: 'I'm going to come to you in the corner. Be
ready.' Kerr said: 'If you pass me the ball, I'll knock it down.' He did.
